The Challenge
Every team we spoke to described the same routine — contracts in one drive, reports in another, a half-finished draft still sitting in somebody's inbox. Nobody had a system; they had a search habit, built from memory of who last touched what.
Docu Genie wanted to replace that habit with a single question, typed or spoken. The catch: an AI that occasionally invents a clause is worse than no AI at all. Whatever we shipped had to be right before it could be fast.
How It Works
Rather than let a model answer from general knowledge, Docu Genie grounds every response in the client's own paperwork first. Nothing gets phrased until the system has found the exact passage to phrase it from.
A document is uploaded and split into smaller, indexed passages
Each passage is stored in a way the system can search by meaning, not just keywords
A question is matched against those passages to find what's actually relevant
Only that handful of matched passages — never the whole library — reaches the model
The answer comes back with the exact passage it was drawn from, so it can be checked

The retrieval engine only matters if the surface around it is one people actually want to open every day, so the build covered both halves of the problem.
